Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Waverly Hills Sanatorium, located in Louisville, Kentucky, opened in 1910 as a two-story hospital to accommodate 40 to 50 tuberculosis patients. It has been popularized on television as being one of the "most haunted" hospitals in the eastern United States, and was seen on ABC/FOX Family Channel's Scariest Places On Earth as well as VH1's Celebrity Paranormal Project. Waverly Hills Sanatorium will host the last show of the touring music festival Sounds of the Underground 2007 on August 11th. The show will feature prominent acts in the extreme metal and metalcore scene, including Job for a Cowboy, The Acacia Strain, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, and Lamb of God. It is unknown whether or not Waverly Hills Sanatorium plans to hold similar festivals or concerts in the future.

In the early 20th century, Jefferson County was severely stricken with an outbreak of tuberculosis. The original Waverly Hills building was soon home to over 140 patients. A larger hospital was needed for the overwhelming number of patients coming in, so construction of a five-story building that could hold more than 400 patients began in March 1924. The new building opened on October 17, 1926, and was eventually closed in June 1961. The building was reopened in 1962 as Woodhaven Geriatrics Hospital; Woodhaven was closed in 1981 due to patient abuse.

Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium (2006)

In March of 1996, Robert Alberhasky bought Waverly Hills and the surrounding area. Alberhasky's Christ the Redeemer Foundation Inc. had plans to construct the world's tallest statue of Jesus on the Waverly site, along with an arts and worship center. The statue, which was inspired by the famed Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, would have been designed by local sculptor Ed Hamilton and architect Jasper Ward. The statue would have rested on the roof of the sanatorium.

The first phase, coming in at a cost of $4,000,000, would be a statue of Jesus 150-foot tall and 150-foot wide. The second phase would convert the old sanatorium into a chapel, theater, and a gift shop at a cost of $8,000,000 or more.

The plan to construct this religious icon fell through because donations to the project fell well short of expectations. In a period of a year, only $3,000 was raised towards the effort despite efforts to pool money from across the nation. As a result, the project was cancelled in December of 1997.

As a result, Alberhasky abandoned the Waverly Hills property. In order to recoup some of the costs of purchasing the property and then some, Alberhasky attempted to have the property condemned so that it could be torn down and redeveloped. That notion was denied by the county, and Alberhasky then attempted to undermine the structural foundations of the building by bulldozing around the southern perimeter in order to receive insurance money.

After Alberhasky's efforts failed, Waverly Hills was sold to current owners Tina and Charlie Mattingly in 2001. Charlie's father, who died in 2005, worked as an orderly at Waverly Hills for approximately four years. The Mattinglys currently hold tours of Waverly Hills and convert the building into a haunted house attraction each Halloween. Proceeds go toward the renovation of the property.

Room 502

Haunting
Room 502 is perhaps the most notable location in Waverly Hills and the number has sometimes been adopted symbolically. One story claims that a nurse hanged herself after finding she was pregnant out of wedlock and attempting surgery upon herself to abort the illegitimate child. Another tells a different nurse who jumped from a balcony. However, the SciFi Channel series Ghost Hunters turned up no records or death certificates to confirm the legends, although there is confirmation of the nurse's suicide by hanging and her discovery in official records. Some sources claim there is also confirmation of the second death, but it is currently disputed. Other common sightings in Waverly Hills include the vista of young children running through the halls, as the hospital had a large number of children and families housed there.

Apparitions & Other Strange Events
The most common experience of visitors seems to be "moving shadows" or "shadow people". These are shadows that appear to have some substance - able to "walk" across doorways and, demonstrated in the Sci-Fi Channel special Spooked, able to block some light when a laser is pointed at them. There are many reports of these shadows both inside and outside the building.

Glowing Orbs (nicknamed "Soul Orbs" by some) have also been photographed there. These small balls of light appear almost like lightbulbs or specks of dust when captured on film, but there has been no electric power to the building in years. They are often reported to fly around corridors and spawn other orbs.

Some photos show indistinct "brown imps" outside the grounds too, but these humanoid shapes are a less common sighting. The existing photographic evidence of the imps is dubious to say the least.

There have been many Electronic_voice_phenomenon recordings made in the building and grounds. Varying from the more common "Get out" or "Go away" to more specific statments like "What kind of hospital is this?" and "The winch" (referring to the winch that powered the Death Tunnel's body card, and recorded in that area). The makers of the movie Death Tunnel (and the documentary Spooked) recorded many such voices and sounds while filming.

Ghosts
Often a boy bouncing a ball is seen and at least one small, old, leather ball has been found in the building. Investigators once found a ball rolling towards them, and it being moved by an unseen force. Electronic_voice_phenomenon recordings feature a child saying "I am three". There have been numerous sightings and recordings of small children.

Another notable vision is the sight of a woman - reports vary as to the age and appearance - bearing chains around bloodied wrists chanting or screaming "Help me!" at the entrance of the building.

The most common apparition though is of a young girl with no eyes which has appeared on photos and been encountered by witnesses. This girl is called "Mary" by staff and researchers, based on a recovered photo of a young woman that was recovered and was signed "Love, Mary Lee". However, the girl in the photo is older than most reports of the ghosts percieved age. Mary is the most conversational of the ghosts and has spoken to many people, usually wanting to play games with them.

Also of note is the "death tunnel" or "body chute" which was first constructed to move supplies to the building during the cold winters. Because of the increasing number of daily deaths from the horrible disease, the staff also transported dead bodies in the tunnel to the bottom of the hill on which the sanatorium was built. They believed this would help keep up the morale of the patients by not allowing them to see the hearses picking up the deceased. At the height of epidemic, there were as many as seven to ten deaths each day. At one point in time, it was reported that as many as three per hour died there, but there is no independant confirmation of that figure.

The Death Tunnel! This tunnel has to be the most famous tunnel up at Waverly Hills. It has been a major subject of discussion among people who have been to visit Waverly on tours during October. For some reason...this tunnel has come to be called " the body chute." Actually however, this is an incorrect term...because a chute is a slide. Bodies of deceased patients were never slid down this tunnel and piled up at the bottom in heaps - a popular misconception that alot of people have come to have about this tunnel.

In reality, this tunnel was originally a steam tunnel that supplied the sanatorium with hot steam for the radiators. Yes, the boiler room was at one time at the very bottom of the hill because of the black smoke produced by the coal fed boilers. The tunnel was also a good way for employees to get up and down the hill during the winter time and keep warm at the same time. Transporting the bodies of deceased tuberculosis patients was only ONE of the uses of the tunnel. During the peak years of tuberculosis there were a lot of deaths at the sanatorium, and the staff realized that it would be very discouraging for patients to look out the windows and see hearses pulling up and taking away people who had died. Try to imagine yourself being administered to the sanatorium with a diagnosis of having TB. It is the late 1920's, and antibiotics have not been invented yet. So, you realize that you have a chance to get cured and live, but...you could die too if the treatments they gave you didn't work well enough. Now, imagine how discouraged you would feel if you looked out from your assigned room, and when you pull the curtains back...you see people who have died being picked up with a hearse. And to make matters worse...you see that perhaps many times throughout a day. It would be so emotionally depressing to you that you might give up the fight to live. Then ....your bodies defenses dwindle. It is a known fact that if a person gets very depressed emotionally....it can affect their bodies defense system to the point that it may not fight off a disease as well as if the person is in good spirits. So, that is the reason why the staff at Waverly would sneak the bodies down through this tunnel!

Estimates vary wildly of how many died at Waverly, though the owners of the building say that it was around 63,000. This estimate would be consistent with other TB hosptitals, considering Waverly's size.

On July 19, 2001, ABC Family's Scariest Places On Earth was taped at Waverly Hills by Triage Entertainment.
In 2004, the movie, Death Tunnel and the documentary Spooked, were filmed at Waverly Hills. Death Tunnel was released by Sony Pictures on February 28, 2006.
The March 29, 2006, episode of the SciFi Channel show Ghost Hunters was taped at Waverly Hills.
The documentary Spooked premiered on June 7, 2006 at 9:00PM EDT on the SciFi Channel.
The VH1 Celebreality show Celebrity Paranormal Project which premiered on October 22, 2006 was taped at Waverly Hills.
A portion of the documentary Haunted, set to premiere in 2007 was filmed at Waverly Hills.
"Terror Normal", a paranormal investigative series, filmed "Episode 1: The Ghosts of the Waverly Hills Sanatorium" in December 2006, and was released in February of 2007.
A French comic book series, Pandemonium by Christophe Bec and Stefano Raffaele, is based on the paranormal events supposed to have occurred at Waverly Hills Sanatorium.

Do not enter the property if you are not scheduled for a tour or during other times without consent of the owners.

Directions: Take East Pages Lane to Paralee Lane that leads into Bobby Nichols Golf Course. On the right, at the top of the hill, is the renovated Laundry Room. Park in the designated parking areas.

Need to know: Cameras, camcorders and tripods are allowed. A few areas, due to construction, are off-limits, but visitors will see the vast majority and the roof of the main structure and the laundry facility. A video introduction is offered in the laundry facility as well.

Today went bowling with GuoChang and LiangMei.When we reached there,there is no lane.Then suddenly have liao.Also dont know why.Before we play,the uncle tell us to pay $3.60 first. So we jt pay.Then we thought that 3 person for 1 game cost $3.60.But is actually for the bowling shoes de.(We borrowed the bowling shoes at there.) After the game then we realise that,is,1 person for 1 game cost $3.60. then the other $3.60 is for the shoes de. In the end,we ending up paying $19.60 cause we each person played twice.Cool :LiangMei and GuoChang have bring extra money lor.If not we really dont know how to pay for the bowling as i only bring $4. *~*" After the bowling thing......we went to lot1 to see LiangMei"s badminton shoes.So we just went there to see lor.^u^ But dont have the one she like de leh. Being the principal, I thought you should be the most amiable,respectable and admired but hell no. Instead of gaining all the respect he should gain, he lost it all. It can be argued that whatever he did were for the welfare of this college,yes i may agree to a certain extent but even so, he should do it in a manner which makes look like a human and not a barbarian. In my secondary school days, my principal, Mr Lau Yan Boon, did almost everything the same as that guy in my college e,g. catching unacceptable length and style of HAIR etc etc. However in doing so he still gained the utmost respect from many of the students.What a contrast!It lies in the way he should carry out things and punishments. In my post, i will state the things he did which make many of us full of anger.I will be serious this time cause its serious @#^%$.

Last Friday, i went to school as usual,using the toilet as usual,went for morning assembly as usual. Seeing the principal up there as though he is an idiot. After the pledge, Koh Yong Chiah, principal of Jurong Junior College served us his perspective on our Indian students that left many of us students,ashamed.

Quoting(95% of the content are very true,the remaining 5% are true but i could not remember the exact details) from Koh Yong Chiah: 'I dont like the indians in our school residing in one corner of the school and i dont like them leaving moustache, they seem to be forming gang in our school.I dont want the Indians to be together anymore. ' What do u mean by GANG?I provide some of the meaning from dictionary.com.

2. a group of youngsters or adolescents who associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons, esp. such a group engaging in delinquent behavior.
3. a group of people with COMPATIBLE tastes or mutual interests who gather together for social reasons: I'm throwing a party for the gang I bowl with.
4. a group of persons working together; squad; shift: a gang of laborers.
5. a group of persons associated for some criminal or other antisocial purpose: a gang of thieves.

He certainly did not mean the first,third and forth meaning mentioned above.That leaves us with the second and fifth meaning.Both are really negative,both mean that the Indians in our school are being labeled as GANGSTERS by him.In JJC,it is true that the Indian students always gather around one corner of the school.What about the Chinese students in the college.We make the largest population in the school and we too,are always in our own CLIQUE.Does that mean we Chinese are forming GANG too in JJC?If goes by the definition of GANG by him, we Chinese in JJC should be categorised as GANGS too.But why doesnt him mention about the Chinese and the Malays and why did he only mention about the Indians in the college?Racist?Maybe.Prejudice?Maybe.Plain stupidity?Damn right.

I have been in this college for around 4 months and the Indians i know and the fellow Indians residing in one corner certainly mean aint NO harm.They are friendly,they are students who constitute part of the college.Why should they be arrowed by the stupidity of our principal?They dont deserve it at all,not a single bit.They deserve better, much more better.From what i see,the Indians are just plainly gathering in their own CLIQUE like many of us do everyday.I hang around with my friends every single morning before morning assembly.I found joy in talking among my clique whom i am familiar with,friends whom i can click with.This should apply to the Indians in our school too,they do can stay with their own band of brothers,their own group of friends.They are doing nothing wrong like the other races in the college and all of us are living in harmony.But one guy just stir this homogeneous HARMONY up without knowing it.What will the Indians feel when he said that?Put yourself in their shoe please.Give them back the liberty to make the friends they want to make and stop making decisions that no ones will obey and stay abide to.

The Indian dance in my school won a SYF GOLD WITH HONOURS medal, something which should make any principal proud of.But wait,did that guy mention anything about the Indian dance troupe winning the prestigious award?NO.He just let life goes on like the Indian Dance Troupe had not won anything great for the college.I saw their dance,its awesome,something i have not seen in one hell of a long time.They deserve the recognition by the school,or at least the principal of the school but they aint no getting any of them.It left me wondering what must the dancer achieve before that guy decides to glorify their achievements infront of the whole school.I think if the 'Indian GANG' did something like fighting outside the school,that guy will most probably announce to the whole world.Now,they done the school proud but why your gap in your face is not opening yet?

This was in line with the college's core values: Sense of Appreciation and Sense of Responsibility (SASR). Going beyond the classrooms, the RI programme focused on experiential LEARNING by getting students to participate in actual events and festivities.' More info can be read here.
What is the use of having this programme when the principal is not corresponding to the aim of the programme.

Aside from this incident,that guy is feared and hated by many for his ways of catching students' 'inappropriate' hair style and length.His most obvious traits are going into every classroom with a stick and knocking at students' chair demanding for the student's ezlink card to be confisticated until his hair is cut on the day itself by 6pm and going around the canteen yelling at boys whose hair are not nice to his eyes.I know where he is coming from,he wants this school to be a good school,grooming gentlemen(yes like me).I recognise this fact and i agree to that.But i do not agree with the way he gets what he wants.

First,he tells students that they look like TERRORIST as their hair are long and their moustache are unshaved.TERRORIST?SMLJ?I shall post one article taken for Straits Times Interactive.

So Mr Koh by calling a student terrorist,do you really want us to be terrorist?I certainly felt insulted if i am called a terrorist.He can be charged under the penal code(Singapore)

Second,recently there is one china student who refused to give in his ezlink card to that guy.He agured with that guy and guess what?THAT GUY smacked the guy.I am not quite sure of where did the principal hit the china student but whatever it is,hitting is not right.C'mon,it is now the 21st century,its not about hitting student with Chinese kung-fu,its not about old-school teaching method,its not about building your regime in school.?For that incident alone,the chinese student is at fault in the first place but the principal of JJC is at a bigger fault.He can be charged under Singapore penal code

I BLOG about this post is to expose the torment we students have to suffer both physically and mentally in JJC.I have the urge to call up TNP to do a review on our principal,however,I must gather more evidences and SUPPORT from the student body.I certainly hope JJCians will stand up to be counted.We call for the respect we deserve.

I love flying kite!......

Today i was having alot of fun.I went kite flying with LiangMei,Glenn and GuoChang.At first when we go,there wasnt alot of wind but after awhile the wind started to come.when the wind came,the kite was flying quite high.Haha......After the kite flying,we went to compass point to eat dinner.We actually wanted to go to the kopitiam to eat but there was no place to sit.So we went to macdonald to eat.But i only eat the macdonald i-cream as i dont have enough money.Haha......After the dinner,we took taxi back.But......the taxi fee is Glenn pay.See...he is so rich.No la just joking only.Haha...... By the way,i was really having alot of fun even though i didnt fly the kite for so long.Haha......Guochang and Liangmei, thnx for bringing me to sengkang to fly kite! ^u^ (Hey guyz,the picture is below!!!!!)

Hate today's badminton court!!......

Today went to court and play badminton.Then saw Marcus chua,he dont even know how to play badminton still want talk cock.Just now borrow his friend also cannot!......When we playing that time he insult my friend!! If i got gang i can asure that he will die!!......(not go heaven or hell that kind of die...... *~*) Then when Yuejun mum dont want play liao because she very tird......I call Jordon come play badminton with me and Yuejun,he dont want then i said something back which i cant remember at all......so......sorry......The limjunjie from class (6B hor!) go copy what i say......only idoits will copy what i say......so......he is an idoit!......Haha......Aiya,not intersted in that liao la! Hello guyz,last few days i when to internet then i notice that LimJunJie cant sing anymore because of dont know what stupid illness la!He is my idol leh!But nevermind,not intersted anymore.Haha......Just now went causeway point with LiangMei and GuoChang lor.We were having alot of fun lor. ^u^ I love going out with LiangMei the most lor cause she always say something which is funny and can make me laugh like a idoit.Haha......Sometime i hope that she is my sister lor.Haha......But that would never happen.Unless she want be my FAKE sister lor.Haha......(WHEN I TALK ABOUT HER,DONT MEAN THAT I LIKE HER!) .I think that is all i want to say liao.^u^ Bye bye! ^u^

Outing thing......

Oh my god! I am so ful lor.Just now when to lot1 and go "NEWYORK NEWYORK" to eat luch.I went with my chinese teacher and some people who scored A for PSLE chinese.But my chinese teacher treate us.Haha......She spent $100 plus on the food...... When i eating half way then GuoChang sms me ask where am i.So i told him that i am at lot1 and i going back at 1plus.I asked him want to come anot then he she call JunHui come can? Is like what is wrong with him?!!Come out without asking JunHui will die is it?!!! No right?!! Aiya,dont want talk about him liao la waste my time nia.Lets continue about the eating thing.My teacher and some of my friends wanted to meet at 11.30am then i said okey.But the next day,which is today,i was late!I reached there at 12.20pm. Then my punishment was to eat finish all the food when they cant finish!......But at last i dont need.Haha......After eating finish,we ordered desert to eat which is the ice cream and the cup was so high and i was QUITE short!^~^ (PICTURES BELOW!)

Later at night going to play badminton again.But later need see the WeiHao face then dont feel like playing liao le lor.Yesterday when YueJun said something then he so KPO go say the same thing again.Then within 30min,he not playing badminton liao then he hang his racket on the net"s string.When we playing that time accidentally hit until the net then his racket drop then blame us.Who the hell he think he is......! So what if his mum is over there,he thought i dont dare scold him?!! I dare OK! I just want give him face only hor!If his mum not there,he will end up like how my dog end up when she is naughty!!

Today i blog a bit earlier but nevermind.Yesterday msg JunHui,she didnt reply,today msg her she also never reply!Yesterday talk to her in msn u also know what happened already right?(refer to yesterday post)I really hope that she isnt the one talking to me in msn yesterday cause is like she change into quite a guai lan person.Then,i also hope that she will change back like last time how she treate and talk towards me.If she dont want to change i also have no choic ^^.I dont want talk much about her already also cause no point talking so much and she didnt change back to how she treate and talk to me.[I TALK SO MUCH ABOUT HER DONT MEAN THAT I LIKE HER! ^o^"]Today nothing much to type also leh.My mum never work so maybe later going out. Just now before i go play badminton i talk to junhui.She didnt scold those bad words.But when she cm back she start to scold. I was thinking just now was is really her who is the one talking to me???......If yes then she must have gone bonkers.If is not her any is other people then that person is a KPO,IDOIT,BITCH.And who the hell she think she is to scold bad words?! By the way now is my turn to scold her......She is a bitch,jackass and idoit!!!

I hate fai qah and my stupid teacher!! Stupid fai qah,ask her want to go lot1 then say ok in the end she went with her friend ! Such a idoit friend i promise i will never ever forgive that idoit!
